External drives are a fine start, but each one is a single point of failure, and backups to them only happen when you remember. A Vault keeps every photo on two drives at once, backs up on its own, and tells us when something looks wrong, so you don't find out the hard way.
Nothing is lost. The two drives mirror each other, so your archive keeps working from the healthy one. We usually know before you do, and we ship you a replacement drive with simple instructions. Swapping it takes a few minutes and no tools.
No. Your photos stay on hardware in your home or studio, and the passwords are printed on an Owner Card in the box. We don't keep a copy. Monitoring sends us health readings only: drive status and backup results, never file names, folders or photos. If you add offsite backup, your archive is encrypted on your Vault before it leaves your home, with a recovery key only you hold.
Protect is an optional plan where we keep watch over your Vault: hourly health checks, alerts that reach us first, priority support and replacement drives shipped ahead. Protect Plus adds a nightly encrypted copy of your archive kept offsite. The first year of Protect comes with every Vault. If you ever cancel, nothing locks. Your Vault and your files keep working exactly as before.
Mirrored drives protect you from a drive failing. They can't protect you from a fire, flood or break-in, because both drives are in the same room. An offsite copy is the one thing that covers those, and it's the piece most photographers are missing.
No. Your Vault arrives fully built and tested. You plug in the power, run the cable marked NETWORK to your internet router, and wait for the light to turn green. Most people are done in about ten minutes, and you can message us at any point.
No. The Vault connects to your router with a cable, so there's no Wi-Fi password to enter, and none for us to ask for or keep.
Yes. Private remote access is set up before your Vault ships, so you can pull files from your laptop or phone on location without putting your archive on the public internet.
Anywhere in the continental US. Every Vault is built and tested by hand in Provo, Utah, then shipped to your door. Alaska, Hawaii and international orders aren't standard yet; email us and we'll tell you honestly where things stand.
Every Vault comes with a 3-year HavenVault warranty on the hardware. If something fails, you deal with us, not a manufacturer's phone line. We replace the part and handle the claim ourselves.
